My formal education in orthodontics has provided me with a strong foundation of knowledge and experience. In 1993, I earned my undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson University and then continued on to dental school at the Medical University of South Carolina, graduating there in 1999. I then practiced for three years in the US Navy, being stationed in Parris Island, SC and Goose Creek, SC. After my commitment, I moved to Greenville where I practiced general dentistry for four years. I then attended the orthodontic residency program at MUSC and graduated in 2009.
I feel my background in mechanical engineering has been extremely helpful as an orthodontist. Everything I do daily involves solving complex problems and using mechanical factors to correct them. I ultimately am an engineer of tooth movement. Also, because I practiced general dentistry for seven years and received training from Dr. Dawson and Dr. Kois, I have a great understanding of not only aesthetics but also how teeth are supposed to fit together. With this in mind, the teeth look great and they are extremely stable for a lifetime.
By regularly participating in continuing education, I am able to stay current on the latest technology and orthodontic treatments. My patients deserve the best, and continuing education allows me to provide my patients with more options and better results. I am also a member of several professional associations that provide me with opportunities for continuing education.
I am truly blessed to live and work in such a wonderful community. I enjoy getting to know my patients and their families, and it is always such an honor to know that I have made a difference in so many of many of my patients’ lives. I couldn’t ask for a better job or for a better group of people to be sharing their smiles with me. I look forward to working with you.
